Like many other days, today also i had this craving for getting some hot new collection stacked in my wardrobe. I went around to have a look at the new designs and trends that have raided the style stores this fall. My eyes particularly searched for some cool T-shirts, i just can’t get enough of them!!
So from one showroom to another i shifted in search of that one design which would batter its eyes at me and plead me to take it home in the most compelling way. But darn it! All i got to see was random flowers, birds and animals (believe me the most uninteresting ones). This is what one of them said :
That T-shirt itself is dying for somebody! I won’t wear that look.. Hell No!
Why on earth would i wear something that says that!
So yeah the search carried on for few more hours, that is when i realized how badly we need good design in the markets for young and vibrant people who’d want their clothes to about more stuff than just the “Darlings” surrounded by random flowers. Even if it is a text it can still look lovely with something more meaningful on it! And that is what our designers are on. Making designs that you could relate to be it games, coffee, partying, witty humor, trolls, college humor, superheroes, arm forces, you , your folks, folks of folks and a lot more.
Like this recent design from MOB’s much loved designing head, talks what i’d like people to listen from me !
I must mention my special love for this color!
Then i realize people like us sitting back home relate more to the shopper’s sentiments and with our efforts can create stuff you all would love to buy without a second thought!!
Loads of such designs are on the cards… Just a little more wait!
Tell us the kind of designs you’d want to wear. Fill in the comments with your amazing ideas! 😀
Earlier this week I went on a visit to a factory which manufactures T-shirts for some of the most famous and expensive brands. Overwhelmed by the labels i heard they produced, i had an image of the T-shirts stored in a glossy glass shell with a mega spotlights focusing on that one precious piece of garment… and while lost in this imagination I happened to step on a T-shirt which later i was told was a Versace! And yes I couldn’t tell, why? because there was no flashes, no shiny glass case, no glitters just a mere piece of fabric that didn’t even look high on quality. But then why whenever I saw it displayed in a showroom I suffered this unavoidable urge of possessing it?!? The reason is the 0.0025 $ label on it.
A Prada Tshirt
We are driven by the notion that brands with a high price tag are unbeatable for its quality. I have always been a brand freak and have been a victim of this mindset since years, but after that trip to the T-shirt factory I woke up to the reality that brand and quality doesn’t always go hand in hand. For apparels like dresses or formal suits we can still rely on brand labels to use better fabric for they have certain standards to keep up to. But with clothing item like a T-shirt, a little bit of treachery can be done as nobody cares about the fabric while buying a T-shirt. They are more focused on the designs and mostly the label it carries. So again blinded by the branding , we end up spending fortunes on a T-shirt which originally costs probably nothing as compared to the price we pay.
Not a Prada Tshirt! But i like it way more and it costs way less.. HEAVEN Courtesy: Threadless
The recent article on dailyfinance has bolstered the fact by a video which shows an activity conducted by Hitchcock Partners, a branding agency, where a plain black T-shirt from seven different brands were displayed including a range from $5 Hanes to $280 Prada. The logos were hidden and the volunteers were asked to pick a T-shirt which they felt was the best in quality. The results were quite surprising as most of the volunteer went for $5 Hanes for the quality and were not that impressed with the expensive range that included brands like Versace. That explains a lot!
Now I don’t suggest that big brands have cheap quality of products, of course not. They still have certain amazing pieces of art that we’ll have to spend on to keep them in our collection. But for a clothing like T-shirts, it is actually foolish to spend that much. A T-shirt should pass by two marks of approval for you to buy it- A good fabric that is comfortable to wear and lasts long & An amazing design that draws attention. It isn’t hard to discover such brands which give you both and a little more too. The whole idea is to look great by spending wisely.
Are you a brand driven human or not?! do you justify going after brands?! Let us know … Comment! 🙂
They conquer a 3rd world just through few clicks and extremely high hand and eye coordination! They are friends with half of the world, not just because of a hot display image (most of them are just animated killing machines) … Continue reading →
The greatest discovery of World War 1, T-shirts are probably the best thing happened to clothing. A T- shirt looks like the most comfortable option to me whenever i dress up to leave either for work or just to hang out with my friends. No matter what you are; a geek, super hot chic, a sophisticated gentleman, gamer, programmer, blogger, foodie, fitness freak, art lover, lazy lad, environmentalist, and a lot more like that, you will always find that one right T-shirt that’ll say it out loud for you. Not just that, i recently realized that apart from making ourselves look ultra cool and labeling our special features we can do a lot more with T-shirts. Commercializing!
This guy working like a horse at google still managing to look his best
Just like the farm and ranch workers during the great depression sort refuge in T-shirts to cover their torso, the big corporates these days are also resorting to this miracle garment to dress them under a sheet of similar hood and create a unique community of their own. Most of the companies these days are creating a company culture by wearing T-shirts that read their name, shifting from formals to these easy to wear comfortable attire. If you are a renowned company and still don’t have an official T-shirt you definitely aren’t as big yet!
Look how happy the team is! Hubspot provides one of the most effective marketing tool presently..
More over with ever changing trends in the marketing, this one is my favorite as it hasn’t yet been brought into practice much and has a lot of scope to be explored. The Customer to customer marketing through T-shirts. Our generation is a bit immune to the word of mouth now, i won’t go to a store just because my friend told me it has a great collection. But if i’ll see a stranger wearing something that is a signature of the store i might think into believing that it might be a famous stop. We don’t fall for anything unless we ourselves see them being followed. So simply put, if you are a company or a brand and you are able to roll out T-shirts to your customers to wear around then that could bring in a lot more trust and status for you. Your customer will wear a T-shirt that endorse you only if they are satisfied by your product or services and are proud to be connected with you. This kind of customer satisfaction i believe is an incredible acclamation for any venture.
This is why we chose T shirts as our mega product!! People say it is too mainstream to work on clothing, but i believe it is about how you use the same thing to bring about a great change! A vision tied up to a T-shirt can do wonders 🙂

I’ve always wanted to have a business of my own, even at the time when i had no idea what a business was. I grew up into a young passion driven “wantrepreneur” ( a term used for a wanna be entrepreneur) with less information in hand and tsunami of ideas gushing across my skull walls everyday. I knew the kind of business i’d like to run, the ethics, the work culture i’d incorporate in my team, everything was “All sorted out” for me. Till i realized that a start up is not about running a business. The main journey starts from the idea generation to that first step of execution where you actually get to solve this equation of ‘revenue – expenditure = profit’ for yourself. And damn… it is tiring!
Reading piles of business journals, watching inspiring TED videos and crawling through the blogs like the one you are currently on, doesn’t quite make you any bit of an entrepreneur. When i realized this i knew i had to do some real stuff, put the idea into a working format.
One fine afternoon this idea of Mob flew into my mind which is a brand that hosts people’s designs on its products (clothes basically) and pay them in return for their contribution. I discussed it with my teammate from a Stanford course and he received the idea very well. He (now also the co founder) is a business enthusiast just like me and i must mention the amazing network of people he has which i believe is one of the major driving factor for a start up. The first pat of motivation came when he wished it to be the idea we’d work upon together. As they say two is a company, it is always better to have a team while working on a start – up. In this scenario the ideas are scrutinized well and often questioned which results to the refinement of thoughts. That day marked the beginning of the journey of this start – up story.
A lot of paper work followed this. We had to be ready with valid answers to every question that could come. Some people around have this habit of showing you the reality. They act rational and practical to an extent that they make you believe it is not going to work. But hey haven’t you heard – Everyone has a different reality and for a matter of fact whatever you believe in is the only reality! We believed this idea was the only reality for us and worked on it.
The idea was finally taking some shape. We worked on the initial written material which is the bible of a business – It’s business model. Easier said than done. While making a business model you have an in depth discussion about your idea and that is when you know if it is a pass or a fail. Our business plan luckily made us more adamant about our idea. We got down to the work of forming an initial designing team, the visual appeal of our idea was through them. That is when we got our designing team head, this amazing guy with a good 9-5 job in an IT industry but his love for designing proved to be a blessing for Mob. Following this we got another designer, a student from an architectural college, and i can’t help mentioning that he recently returned from a short trip to Sri Lanka (I find it thrilling maybe its the after effects of a movie i just saw on Sri Lankan communal violence).
We are a team of 4 currently, but we have stretched our limits to infinity. Keeping our senses open to every opportunity, even if it is knocking neighbor’s door we can’t afford to let go of anything. Working for long hours, super extended discussions, going through every possible website that is even loosely related to our idea, checking through the fabric detail of every cloth that is hanging in the stores, hunting for design ideas , trying to get in touch with experienced people and discussing our plans with them ; that is pretty much of what we are doing currently. And we love this routine. We are a start-up!!
I’ll continue updating you with my Start-up experiences and will try to share the lessons that i’ll learn in this journey!!
Please leave your comments and share your experiences with me 🙂 It is always good to hear and learn from great people like you!!
